Copying your memories to a backup clone is a violation of that person's rights as an individual; imposing identity, personal and legal, without its consent. And even if you name that entity as your legal heir, your relatives would probably be able to contest the will.

Cloning: Work-for-hire or are you licensing the use of your body from the clone producers?

Would the mind-clone really have the same legal identity, though? I think in the eyes of any current government if both persons (original and clone) were in the same room no judge would rule them to be the same person.

Obviously, you could probably pull a humdinger of a hoax/con if you and your clone were never seen at the same time, but that's just an illusion.

I've been fascinated by memory-copying to an identical clone as both a philosophical quandry and plot device for many a year.

In regards to your closing question... is this in regards to you donating a sample to clone producers? I'd probably go with the latter. Licensing your property - though I've never been one to equate the body with personal identity...

Is my clone just a memory bank? Kept on life support as a "restore-point"? I don't think I'd be satisfied with that, as soon as my memories were copied we'd be two different "people" from that point on, he couldn't live my life in my absence. That would just be like having a twin, he wouldn't REALLY be me, unless I transferred my consciousness.

In that case, yeah, it's a total violation, but the even better question is what good would a full grown man with no brain at all be used for anyway? NOTHING BUT TO SERVE MY WILL.
